"elderly"という表記は高齢者差別的だそうです。
日本語である特定の言葉が差別的な用語として使われなくなるのと同じように、英語でも当然使うべきではない、という用語が時代とともに出てきます。先日、投稿前の論文を英語校正に出したところ、今まであまり気に留めず使っていた、あるいは論文で使われているのを目にしていた単語が差別用語なので避けた方が良い、と指摘されました。
それが "elderly"です。
認知症関連の論文を書いていて、今まで何気なく使っていたのですが、確かにこんなソースがありました。
